Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has renewed his commitment to working with Wiper Patriotic Front leader Kalonzo Musyoka as opposition leaders continue efforts to shape a united political front ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Sifuna made the remarks on Thursday, September 10, 2026, after meeting Kalonzo at his Nairobi residence for what he described as a morning catch-up over tea.
In a post on X, Sifuna said the two leaders agreed that Kenyans committed to changing the country’s political direction needed to work together.
Sifuna Calls for Political Unity
Speaking during an interview with Phil Director, Sifuna reaffirmed his willingness to work with Kalonzo and other opposition figures in what he described as an effort to “save” the country and restore constitutional democracy.
The Nairobi senator criticised what he referred to as the “mambo matatu” regime and called for collective action by leaders and citizens who share concerns about the country’s political direction.
Sifuna said he was prepared to do whatever was necessary to advance the push for political change ahead of the next General Election.
Kalonzo Remains Key Opposition Figure
The meeting comes as opposition leaders continue positioning themselves for the 2027 contest, with Kalonzo increasingly emerging as one of the leading presidential contenders.
Kalonzo, who heads the Wiper Patriotic Front, has been identified by the party as its preferred presidential candidate for the 2027 election.
His engagement with Sifuna is therefore significant as opposition parties and movements explore possible alliances and strategies for challenging the Kenya Kwanza administration.
Sifuna’s Role in Opposition Realignment
Sifuna has in recent months played a prominent role in the ongoing opposition realignment and the Linda Mwananchi movement.
His renewed engagement with Kalonzo comes at a time when opposition leaders are seeking ways to consolidate their support bases and agree on a political strategy ahead of the 2027 polls.
The latest meeting signals continued dialogue between the two leaders as they assess areas of cooperation and the broader push for an alternative political alliance ahead of the election.
