Sotik Member of Parliament Francis Sigei has apologised to President William Ruto following remarks he made at a rally in Bomet that sparked confusion over his political position.
Sigei said his choice of words was misunderstood after he appeared to suggest that Ruto should serve only one term, a statement that was interpreted by some as aligning with the opposition’s “WANTAM” campaign.
The legislator moved quickly to clarify that his intention was to call for Ruto to serve another term in office and support his re-election in the 2027 General Election.
MP Apologises to President Ruto
Sigei said he had already apologised to Ruto over the remarks, attributing the confusion partly to the atmosphere surrounding the political gathering.
The Sotik MP explained that he had not intended to send a message that could be interpreted as opposing the President or endorsing an opposition campaign.
He maintained that his position was to support Ruto’s bid for another term and said his remarks at the rally did not accurately convey the message he intended to deliver.
Sigei Seeks to End Political Confusion
The clarification comes amid heightened political activity in the Rift Valley as leaders and political parties begin positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 General Election.
The “WANTAM” slogan has been adopted by opposition figures seeking to challenge Ruto’s re-election bid, making statements by leaders from his political support base particularly significant.
By apologising and explaining his comments, Sigei sought to reaffirm his support for the President and remove any suggestion that he had shifted his political position.
