ODM Nairobi chairman George Aladwa has dismissed claims that he and Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja are plotting to disrupt the planned Linda Mwananchi political rally in Nairobi on Sunday.
Speaking on Friday, September 11, 2026, Aladwa said ODM had no plans to interfere with the rally or organise activities that could trigger confrontation between supporters of rival political formations.
“I wish to make our position as ODM Nairobi very clear. Linda Mwananchi is free to hold its rally and conduct its political activities in Nairobi,” Aladwa said.
The Makadara MP also clarified that ODM had not scheduled a parallel political meeting in Nairobi on Sunday that could create a clash between the two groups.
His statement followed allegations by Wiper Patriotic Front leader Kalonzo Musyoka that Aladwa and Sakaja were planning to interfere with the gathering, raising concerns over possible political confrontations in the city.
ODM backs right to peaceful assembly
Aladwa said ODM respected the constitutional freedoms of political organisations to assemble, mobilise supporters and communicate their political agendas to the public.
He maintained that political competition should be centred on ideas, policies and the ability to persuade voters rather than confrontations between rival supporters.
Aladwa insisted that nobody within ODM had plans to disrupt the Linda Mwananchi event and said the party had no reason to interfere with the activities of another political formation.
“Nobody in ODM has any intention of disrupting or interfering with the Linda Mwananchi rally,” he said.
He further urged the police to provide sufficient security for the gathering, arguing that maintaining law and order should remain the responsibility of security agencies rather than political actors.
Aladwa also commended Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja for his commitment to securing the event and ensuring participants could attend without fear of violence.
Aladwa urges rival groups to remain peaceful
The ODM Nairobi chairman called on both sides to respect each other's political space, saying Nairobi should remain open to different political voices and formations.
He urged Linda Mwananchi organisers to proceed with their rally and present their agenda to residents, while expressing confidence that voters were capable of listening to competing political messages and making their own decisions.
Aladwa also appealed to ODM supporters to remain calm and avoid being provoked into confrontations, saying the party had nothing to gain from political disruption or violence.
“We have nothing to prove through disruption or violence,” he said.
He called for similar respect from Linda Mwananchi supporters, emphasising that political differences should not undermine peaceful engagement.
ODM focuses on 2027 preparations
Aladwa said ODM Nairobi was concentrating on strengthening its structures and expanding its grassroots presence ahead of the 2027 General Election rather than focusing on the activities of rival political formations.
He said the party was undertaking a programme to rebuild grassroots structures, mobilise supporters and strengthen its political base across Nairobi.
The Makadara MP added that ODM was also preparing activities to commemorate the anniversary of the death of its former leader, Raila Odinga, whose contribution to Kenya's democratic and constitutional reforms remained an important part of the party's history.
Aladwa maintained that ODM would continue pursuing its own political programme while allowing other formations to conduct their activities freely.
“Nairobi belongs to all of us. It is a political capital where different voices and political formations must be allowed to operate freely and peacefully,” he said.
