In a press statement shared on its X account on Saturday, September 12, 2026, UDA Secretary General Hassan Omar Hassan called for urgent investigations into the incident and appropriate action if breaches of the law or relevant political party regulations are established.
The statement followed chaos that disrupted a UDA meeting attended by Deputy President and UDA Deputy Party Leader Kithure Kindiki and UDA Chairperson Cecily Mbarire at Nembure Grounds.
UDA seeks regulatory action
UDA said the incident raised serious questions regarding compliance with Kenya’s electoral and political parties regulatory framework, prompting the party to seek intervention from the two institutions.
The ruling party called on IEBC and ORPP to urgently investigate the incident and commence appropriate proceedings should investigations establish breaches of the applicable Code of Conduct or other legal and regulatory provisions.
“Accordingly, UDA formally, through this statement, petitions the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) and the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP) to urgently investigate this incident and commence appropriate proceedings for any breaches of the applicable Code of Conduct and other relevant legal and regulatory provisions,” the statement said.
UDA also called on the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to investigate reports of violence, destruction of property and injuries arising from the disruption.
The party said accountability was necessary to safeguard political participation and ensure that party activities are conducted within the law as the country moves closer to the 2027 General Election.
The Nembure incident comes amid heightened political activity across the country, with parties holding grassroots meetings and mobilisation activities as they prepare for the next electoral contest.
