Maanzo cited what he described as stalled development projects, corruption, misuse of public funds and poor governance among the key shortcomings of Ruto’s administration during his four years in office.
“I would rate Ruto’s performance at only 10%, a failure. Thwake Dam has made no progress, while corruption, misuse of public funds, and poor governance continue,” he said.
The senator also referred to polling data which he claimed showed Ruto’s national support had fallen to a maximum of 30 per cent, arguing that the figures could present a challenge for the President as he seeks a second term.
Maanzo criticises Affordable Housing Programme
Maanzo also criticised the government’s Affordable Housing Programme, questioning the use of public land to construct houses that he claimed remained unaffordable for many ordinary Kenyans.
“The housing project has completely missed the point. What he has done is to make sure some businessmen associated with him supply materials, and once that is done, they are not even very keen on the quality of those houses,” Maanzo stated.
His remarks come as Ruto marks four years since he was sworn in as Kenya’s fifth President on September 13, 2022, with the 2027 General Election now less than a year away.
The senator’s assessment places development delivery, government expenditure and the cost of public programmes at the centre of the political debate surrounding Ruto’s first term.
Maanzo’s criticism also comes at a time when opposition leaders are increasingly scrutinising the administration’s record as political parties and alliances position themselves ahead of the 2027 presidential contest.
