Cherargei Predicts Linda Mwananchi Collapse if Babu Owino Leaves

"Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei has claimed that the Linda Mwananchi movement could collapse if Embakasi East MP Babu Owino leaves the political outfit."

Cherargei alleged that Owino would soon exit the movement, arguing that his departure would significantly undermine the political formation ahead of the 2027 General Election.

The senator also claimed that Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna would not appear on the ballot in the next election, alleging that the legislator could be left without a political party through which to contest.

Cherargei further claimed that Sifuna would eventually leave his current political vehicle and join a party associated with the Luhya community, linking the expected realignments to Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya’s Ukombozi Party of Kenya.

“If Babu Owino leaves Linda Mwananchi movement, which he will leave soon, the movement will COLLAPSE; that’s why I said that Sifuna will not be on the ballot because he is partyless, but he will be reduced to chairman of Luhya Council because he will defect to the Luhya party led by Natembeya called Ukombozi Party of Kenya,” Cherargei said.

Cherargei predicts Orengo’s return to ODM

Cherargei also weighed in on the political future of Siaya Governor James Orengo, claiming that the veteran politician would eventually return to the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).

The senator alleged that Orengo would seek to make amends for what he described as his past political actions.

“Orengo will run back to ODM party while atoning his grievous sins,” Cherargei said.

Cherargei’s remarks come amid ongoing political realignments and reported disagreements within Linda Mwananchi over its political direction and the parties that its leaders will use to contest the 2027 elections.

Babu Owino, Sifuna deny political fallout

Recent reports have pointed to differences between political camps associated with Babu Owino and Sifuna, particularly over the movement’s preferred political vehicle and leadership.

Owino said on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, that he had held discussions with Sifuna over the choice of a party through which Linda Mwananchi leaders could contest the 2027 election.

According to the account, discussions included the Ukombozi People’s Party and Owino’s own political party, with Sifuna initially suggesting that the two could retain separate parties while working together through a coalition.

There have also been questions surrounding the management of Linda Mwananchi rallies, with reported disagreements between the two camps over protocol and the organisation of political events.

Some of Owino’s supporters have also complained on social media that the Embakasi East MP was being sidelined within the movement.

Owino, however, has repeatedly downplayed reports of a fallout with Sifuna.

In August, he dismissed claims that he had withdrawn his support for Sifuna and reaffirmed his backing for the Nairobi Senator’s presidential ambitions.

On Tuesday, Owino again rejected claims of internal wrangles, saying he and Sifuna remained political allies despite pursuing different elective positions in 2027.

He also said he would not attend every Linda Mwananchi rally as he focuses on his campaign for the Nairobi gubernatorial seat.

Cherargei’s latest remarks add to the growing political debate over the future of Linda Mwananchi and the political parties that its leading figures could use ahead of the 2027 General Election.
