Speaking about the 2022 election, Uhuru said efforts had been made to support Odinga’s presidential campaign and insisted that the former Azimio candidate secured enough votes to win the presidency.
“Tulifanya kila kitu kumsaidia Baba awe Rais wa Jamhuri yetu ya Kenya. Na kura akapata, na mimi mpaka wa leo najua ya kwamba yeye ndiye alishinda hiyo kura,” Uhuru said.
The former President said he remained convinced that Odinga won the election, despite the official results declaring William Ruto the winner.
Uhuru also referred to the events surrounding the 2022 presidential contest, saying Kenyans understood what happened and should work to ensure similar circumstances do not recur.
“Tunajua vile mambo ilienda, na hatutaki iende hivyo tena,” he said.
His remarks come as political parties and leaders intensify preparations for the 2027 General Election, with electoral credibility, voter participation and the preparedness of electoral institutions emerging as major issues in the political debate.
Uhuru’s comments are also likely to renew discussions about the 2022 presidential election and the political alliances that shaped the contest between Ruto and Odinga.
