Speaking on Thursday, September 24, during Senate Mashinani sittings in Kilifi, Mundigi asked the Standing Committee on National Security, Defence and Foreign Relations to provide an update on investigations into the incident.

Mundigi said the violence was a matter of national concern after several people were injured, vehicles were destroyed and lives were reportedly lost during the UDA meeting.

“Mr. Speaker, sir, I rise pursuant to Standing Order 53(1) to seek a statement from the Standing Committee on National Security, Defense and Foreign Relations on a matter of national concern regarding the violence that occurred during the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) delegates meeting held in Embu County on 12th September 2026,” Mundigi said.

Mundigi seeks update on investigations

The Embu senator wants the committee to provide details on the progress made in investigating the violence and identifying those responsible.

He specifically asked the committee to establish the identities of people who allegedly planned, organised or participated in the incident.

“The progress made in investigating the incident and identifying the persons who planned, organized, or participated in the violence,” he said.

Mundigi also wants Parliament to be informed about the number of suspects who have been arrested and charged in connection with the violence.

“The number of suspects arrested and charged in connection with the incident, including further action being taken against those found culpable,” he said.

The senator’s request comes after UDA formally petitioned the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) and the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP) over the disruption, calling for investigations and appropriate action where breaches of the law and political parties’ regulations are established.

The incident has also intensified scrutiny of political meetings and the conduct of political actors as parties begin positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Mundigi’s request now places the Embu violence before the Senate, with the relevant committee expected to provide answers on the investigations, arrests and any action taken against those found responsible.
