According to Matiang’i’s programme, the tour will begin with a worship service at Dominion Church in Olerai before the delegation proceeds to Narok Town for a public engagement with residents.
Matiang’i will be accompanied by Siaya Governor James Orengo, People’s Party of Kenya (PPK) leader Ndindi Nyoro and Jubilee Party Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni, who will host the delegation in Narok.
The presence of the three leaders is politically significant because they represent different parties, movements and political networks that are positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 election.
Orengo, Nyoro and Kioni join Matiang’i
Orengo is a prominent figure within the Linda Mwananchi movement and has participated in grassroots mobilisation activities alongside Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, Embakasi East MP Babu Owino and other opposition leaders.
The Siaya governor has also expressed interest in the movement’s presidential ticket while calling for consultations among opposition leaders to eventually settle on a single candidate capable of mounting a strong challenge in the 2027 election.
Nyoro, meanwhile, leads the People’s Party of Kenya, a political vehicle he joined after leaving the United Democratic Alliance.
The Kiharu MP has since embarked on nationwide grassroots mobilisation and has indicated that PPK is open to working with other opposition formations ahead of the next General Election.
Matiang’i builds national political network
Matiang’i’s decision to continue with his “Meet the People” tour comes as political leaders across the country step up grassroots engagement ahead of the 2027 polls.
The former Interior CS has increasingly featured in discussions surrounding the presidential race and has been building his political profile through engagements in different parts of the country.
The Narok tour is expected to provide an opportunity for the leaders to engage residents on political and national issues while also highlighting the growing interaction between different opposition formations.
The appearance of Orengo, Nyoro and Kioni alongside Matiang’i could also fuel further speculation over possible opposition alliances as parties and political movements explore ways of consolidating their support ahead of the 2027 presidential contest.
With political negotiations expected to intensify in the months ahead, grassroots mobilisation remains a key battleground as potential presidential candidates seek to expand their influence beyond their traditional political bases.
