The Electoral Commission has finalized the registration of 181 candidates who will contest in 24 electoral areas where by-elections are scheduled for November 27, 2025.
According to Gideon Balang, Manager of Electoral Operations, a 10-day dispute resolution window has been opened to address any issues arising from the registration process. Balang noted that a new monitoring and reporting tool was deployed during registration to gather field data for future improvements.
Among the registered candidates, Kariobandi North Ward in Embakasi North Constituency, Nairobi County, and Chewani Ward in Galole Constituency, Tana River County, each recorded the highest number of contenders at 16. Meanwhile, Tembelio Ward in Moiben Constituency, Uasin Gishu County, has only one candidate cleared to contest.
Campaigning officially begins following candidate clearance by the respective Returning Officers and will run daily from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., ending on Monday, November 24, 2025—48 hours before polling day.
The Commission appealed to candidates and supporters to maintain peace and comply with the Electoral Code of Conduct throughout the campaign period.
“Candidates are urged to strictly adhere to the Code of Conduct during the electioneering period,” Balang emphasized.
