Presidential hopeful David Maraga has announced that, if elected, his administration will consist of 50 percent women, marking a bold step toward achieving gender parity in national leadership.
Speaking at a public forum, Maraga emphasized that women have long been underrepresented in decision-making positions despite playing a vital role in the nation’s social and economic development. He stated that his administration would prioritize equal opportunity, fairness, and inclusion as key pillars of governance.
“We cannot talk about national progress while leaving half of our population behind,” Maraga said. “My government will ensure that women have an equal voice in shaping our policies and determining the country’s future.”
The former Chief Justice highlighted that gender balance is not just a matter of fairness but also a strategic move to improve governance and strengthen accountability.
Political analysts have described Maraga’s pledge as a progressive stance that could reshape Kenya’s political landscape if implemented. His commitment aligns with the constitutional principle of the “two-thirds gender rule,” which has remained a challenge in previous administrations.
Maraga’s promise has been welcomed by several women’s rights groups, who view it as a potential turning point in the fight for gender equality in leadership and public service.
