The IEBC has officially gazetted February 26, 2026, as the date for four by-elections across different parts of the country. The announcement was made through a notice signed by IEBC Chairperson Erastus Ethekon on December 19, 2025.
The by-elections will be held to fill the Isiolo South parliamentary seat, two Member of County Assembly (MCA) seats in Embu County, and one MCA position in Kakamega County.
Isiolo South Seat Draws Early Attention
The Isiolo South parliamentary seat became vacant after the death of MP Mohamed Tubi Bidu, popularly known as Tubi Bidu Mohamed, who passed away on November 12, 2025.
In the days following his passing, Isiolo elders publicly rallied behind his son, Tubi Mohamed Tubi, endorsing him as their preferred candidate for the upcoming by-election a move that has already added political weight to the contest.
Embu and Kakamega MCA Vacancies
In Embu County, the Muminji and Evurore ward seats in Mbeere North were left vacant after their respective MCAs resigned. Newton Kariuki of the Devolution Empowerment Party and Duncan Mbui stepped down from their ward positions to vie for the Mbeere North parliamentary seat in November 2025.
Both, however, failed to unseat the incumbent MP, Leo Wa Muthende, leaving their former wards without representation.
Meanwhile, voters in West Kabras ward in Malava, Kakamega County, will also head to the ballot to elect a new MCA following the vacancy of the seat.
