Kalonzo Musyoka Vows Major Healthcare Reforms Ahead of 2027 Race

"Wiper Patriotic Front leader Kalonzo Musyoka has pledged to radically reform Kenya’s healthcare system and eliminate corruption within the Social Health Authority (SHA) if elected president in 2027. He faulted President William Ruto’s administration for what he described as a collapsing health sector and reaffirmed that access to quality healthcare is a constitutional right for all Kenyans."

Wiper Patriotic Front leader Kalonzo Musyoka has promised sweeping reforms in Kenya’s healthcare sector, vowing to clean up the Social Health Authority (SHA) and restore dignity in public healthcare if he wins the 2027 presidential election.

Speaking during an interview on a local television station on Sunday, December 21, 2025, the former Vice President sharply criticised the state of healthcare under President William Ruto’s administration, describing it as dysfunctional and failing ordinary Kenyans.

Kalonzo argued that universal healthcare is not a privilege but a fundamental right guaranteed under Article 43 of the Constitution. He said the current system has fallen far short of this constitutional promise, leaving millions of Kenyans struggling to access affordable and quality medical services.

“First of all, healthcare admittedly is a shambles under Ruto. Universal health care is a basic human right under Article 43 of our Constitution. Every Kenyan is entitled to decency when it comes to how they are attended to in terms of health care,” Kalonzo stated.

SHA Reforms and Anti-Corruption Drive

Turning his focus to the Social Health Authority, Kalonzo launched a scathing attack on the institution, accusing it of being deeply entrenched in corruption and lacking accountability. He claimed that mismanagement and opaque dealings within SHA have undermined public confidence and compromised service delivery.

The Wiper leader pledged that, under his presidency, SHA would undergo comprehensive reforms aimed at restoring transparency, efficiency, and integrity. He emphasized that public funds allocated to healthcare must directly benefit citizens rather than being lost through corruption and poor governance.

Kalonzo further stated that a reformed healthcare system would prioritize patients, frontline health workers, and equitable access to services across all regions of the country. He promised to strengthen oversight mechanisms and ensure that healthcare institutions operate in line with constitutional values.

As the 2027 elections approach, healthcare is emerging as a central campaign issue, with opposition leaders increasingly challenging the government’s record. Kalonzo’s remarks position him as a strong critic of the current administration and signal his intention to make healthcare reform and anti-corruption a cornerstone of his presidential campaign.
