Wiper Patriotic Front leader Kalonzo Musyoka has delivered a fiery rallying call to young Kenyans and the Gen Z generation, urging them to urgently register as voters and prepare to use the ballot to effect political change.
In a strongly worded statement addressed to “wazalendo,” Kalonzo stressed that while the urgency for change is real, meaningful transformation can only be achieved through deliberate action at the ballot box. He accused President William Ruto of sanctioning harsh responses against young people who exercised their constitutional right to protest, framing the issue as a defining moment for Kenya’s democracy.
Kalonzo employed powerful language to underscore his message, urging voters to “shoot at the ballot” using their votes rather than violence. He clarified that participation in elections is the only legitimate and constitutional path to accountability and leadership change.
“But you cannot shoot if you do not have ammunition. So I implore you to register to vote,” Kalonzo said, emphasizing that voter registration is the foundation of political power.
The former Vice President specifically appealed to young people and Gen Zs, warning them not to be discouraged, silenced, or intimidated into political apathy. He called on them to take personal responsibility for mobilising their peers, classmates, friends, and family members to ensure that every eligible Kenyan obtains a voter’s card.
“Register today. Register tomorrow. Register the next day. Register until all your friends, classmates, and cousins have their voter’s card in hand,” he urged.
Kalonzo described the vote as a “constitutional weapon,” stressing that it is peaceful, legal, and powerful when used collectively. He framed the upcoming elections as a decisive moment, encouraging youth to remain steadfast and committed to civic participation.
The statement comes amid heightened political engagement by young Kenyans, particularly following recent protests and debates around governance, accountability, and the cost of living. As the 2027 General Election approaches, voter registration and youth turnout are emerging as central issues in Kenya’s political discourse.
Kalonzo’s message reinforces the growing push by opposition leaders to energise young voters, positioning the ballot as the ultimate tool for shaping the country’s future and defending constitutional freedoms.
