Moses Kuria revealed that he had attended a burial ceremony in Makomboki, Murang’a County, to condole with Hon James Gakuya following the death of his mother, Alice Wangari Gakuiya. According to Kuria, he left the ceremony abruptly after receiving intelligence that there was a plan to instigate violence against leaders perceived to be politically opposed to Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
The revelation has raised serious concerns about growing political hostility within the region.
Shock Over Alleged Assault
Kuria expressed outrage upon learning that the situation allegedly escalated further, culminating in an attack on Lamu Woman Representative Muthoni Marubu. He described the incident as unacceptable and dangerous, particularly because it involved violence against a woman.
In his remarks, Kuria questioned whether past presidents Jomo Kenyatta, Mwai Kibaki, or Uhuru Kenyatta ever condoned or ordered violence against women, drawing a sharp contrast with current political conduct.
In one of his strongest statements yet, Kuria accused Gachagua of being intolerant and reckless, branding him a coward, a despot, and a threat to democratic space. He warned that the alleged actions had crossed a critical line and vowed to confront what he termed as political intimidation head-on.
Kuria’s comments signal a dramatic escalation in the already strained relationship between the two leaders, turning simmering rivalry into open confrontation.
Mt Kenya Politics at a Boiling Point
The claims have further exposed deep cracks within Mt Kenya leadership, with fears that political competition could spill into more confrontations if tensions are not cooled. As calls for restraint grow, Kenyans are watching closely to see how the leadership responds to accusations that strike at the heart of political tolerance and safety.
