Makadara Member of Parliament George Aladwa has broken ranks with the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leadership, calling out top party officials over what he termed as endless internal squabbles that risk weakening the party’s unity and direction.
Speaking amid growing tensions within ODM, Aladwa said the continued infighting among senior officials was distracting the party from its core mandate and alienating supporters on the ground. He urged party leaders to prioritise cohesion and internal discipline as the party navigates a delicate political period.
In a significant revelation, Aladwa announced that Winnie Odinga, the daughter of former party leader Raila Odinga, will be proposed for the position of deputy party leader. According to Aladwa, the move is aimed at injecting fresh energy into the party leadership while safeguarding ODM’s founding ideals.
He described Winnie Odinga as a committed party loyalist with a deep understanding of ODM’s history and grassroots support base, arguing that her elevation would strengthen the party’s ideological continuity and appeal to younger supporters.
Aladwa’s remarks come as ODM grapples with visible divisions among its top ranks, with competing camps trading accusations over influence, strategy, and the party’s future direction. The proposed leadership changes are expected to spark debate within the party, especially among officials who have been vocal about succession and internal reforms.
As ODM prepares for upcoming internal consultations, Aladwa called on party members to embrace dialogue and unity, warning that prolonged infighting could undermine the party’s standing nationally.
