Senator Kiprotich Arap Cherargei has alleged that Edwin Sifuna actively supported, debated, and mobilised backing for the impeachment of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua while serving in the Senate. According to Cherargei, official Senate records back up his claims, contradicting narratives suggesting otherwise.
He argued that Sifuna’s actions place him at the centre of what he described as misleading political conduct.
Accusations of Double-Speak Politics
Cherargei went further to accuse the ODM Secretary General of engaging in what he termed deceitful and hypocritical politics. In his view, Sifuna’s public posture does not match his legislative record, a contradiction he says Kenyans deserve clarity on.
Possible Fallout Within ODM
The senator claimed that ODM is set to take disciplinary action against Sifuna, including removing him from the powerful Secretary General position. He also suggested that changes are coming in the Senate, where Sifuna currently holds a leadership role within the minority side.
According to Cherargei, these moves would effectively free Sifuna to align himself with political actors opposed to the broad-based government arrangement.
By the time of publishing, Sifuna had not publicly responded to the claims. The unfolding situation is expected to fuel further debate within ODM and across the political divide, especially as alliances continue to shift.
