MP Pushes Back Against Pressure Politics
Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba has alleged that she is facing coercion and verbal attacks aimed at forcing her to join the Democracy for the Citizens Party. According to the MP, the tactics mirror earlier attempts to bully her politically when she opposed the 2023 Finance Bill.
She maintains that standing her ground then came at a cost but she has no regrets.
Questions Over DCP’s Legitimacy
Wamuchomba raised fresh questions about the structure and leadership of the new party, pointing to official political party records that, she claims, do not list its supposed founder as a registered official. She dismissed claims that the party represents a regional political bloc, arguing that no one can be compelled to join a party under the guise of regional loyalty.
The MP also took aim at Senate Majority Whip Karungo Thang’wa, accusing him of belittling leaders who have chosen not to align with the new party while still holding office under UDA. In her view, the messaging sends confusing signals to voters and undermines political accountability.
Challenge to Resign and Seek Fresh Mandates
In a bold challenge, Wamuchomba dared DCP-aligned leaders to resign from their current seats and return to the ballot under their new political banner. According to her, only then can claims of grassroots support be tested fairly.
UDA Loyalty Reaffirmed
Despite the growing political noise, Wamuchomba made it clear that her political home remains unchanged. She said she will continue serving under UDA through the 2027 elections, dismissing speculation of an imminent defection.
