Speaking during an NCCK regional gathering, Nicholas Mutwiri expressed concern over the growing trend of early political campaigns, which he said risk distracting leaders from their core mandate. According to him, leaders should be concentrating on addressing the nation’s challenges from unemployment to the high cost of living instead of focusing on succession politics.
“Ordinary Kenyans are struggling to put food on the table, yet some leaders are already planning for the next election,” Mutwiri said. “This is not the time for rallies; it is the time for service.”
Church’s Role in Accountability
Mutwiri emphasized that the church will continue playing its role in advocating for integrity and accountability in leadership. He urged the government to prioritize development programs that directly impact citizens, including lowering food prices, creating jobs, and supporting education and healthcare.
The NCCK, he added, stands firm in reminding leaders of their duty to serve selflessly and uphold the public good.
