Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Secretary General Edwin Sifuna has declared that the conversation around national values will not be abandoned, despite what he described as deliberate political noise meant to distract Kenyans from core governance principles.
In a strongly worded statement, Sifuna reminded the country that Kenyans overwhelmingly demanded a government founded on six essential values, with the rule of law standing out as a central pillar. He emphasized that respecting court orders is not optional but fundamental to constitutional governance.
According to the ODM Secretary General, any administration that disregards court rulings undermines the very foundation upon which legitimate authority rests. He warned that economic projects, political maneuvering, or public relations efforts cannot substitute adherence to constitutional values.
“It doesn’t matter what else the regime does,” Sifuna noted, adding that without a sustained commitment to values, particularly the rule of law, governance efforts amount to nothing. He underscored that development without legality and accountability is hollow and unsustainable.
Sifuna’s remarks come amid growing public debate over alleged disobedience of court orders and concerns about constitutional backsliding. He framed the values conversation as non-negotiable, insisting it must remain at the center of Kenya’s political discourse.
The ODM official concluded by asserting that Kenyans must continue to demand leadership anchored in the rule of law, accountability, and respect for institutions, warning that abandoning these principles risks eroding the democratic gains achieved over decades.
