President William Ruto has led the nation in mourning Isiolo South MP Mohamed Tubi, describing him as a devoted leader whose passion for education and community empowerment left an enduring mark on the region.
In a message shared on Facebook, Ruto said he received news of Tubi’s death “with deep sorrow,” extending condolences on behalf of the government and the people of Kenya.
“I have learnt with deep sorrow of the passing on of Isiolo South MP, Hon Mohamed Tubi. On behalf of the government and the people of Kenya, I extend my heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and the people of Isiolo South,” Ruto said.
The president eulogized Tubi as “a dedicated public servant and a passionate advocate for education, who believed in empowering communities through knowledge and opportunity.”
Ruto noted that the legislator’s commitment to transforming lives in Isiolo would remain a defining feature of his public service. “His commitment to transforming the lives of his constituents and advancing development in Isiolo stands as a lasting legacy of his leadership,” he added.
Tubi, who represented Isiolo South Constituency in the National Assembly, was serving his second term under the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party. He was first elected in 2013 under the Jubilee Party before successfully defending his seat in 2022 on Ruto’s UDA ticket.
Known for his humility and focus on grassroots issues, Tubi championed projects aimed at improving access to education, healthcare, and clean water in the arid northern region. He was particularly vocal about addressing marginalization and the challenges faced by pastoralist communities affected by drought and insecurity.
Parliamentary colleagues described him as a calm and deliberate lawmaker who preferred dialogue to confrontation. “He was one of the few leaders who always reminded us to think about the people we represent,” said a fellow MP from the region.
Messages of condolence poured in from across the political divide, with leaders praising his bipartisan approach and dedication to public service.
As news of his death spread, residents of Isiolo South gathered in mosques and community centers to mourn a man they described as “a leader who never turned his back on his people.”
“Hon Tubi was more than a politician; he was one of us,” said Ahmed, a resident of Merti. “He cared about our schools, our roads, and our children’s future.”
Ruto concluded his statement with a prayer: “May the Almighty God rest his soul in eternal peace and comfort his loved ones during this very difficult time.”
