Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has strongly denounced violence directed at places of worship, stating that any form of violence—whether orchestrated by political opponents, staged for sympathy, or carried out for any other motive is a criminal act.
Kindiki noted that such actions undermine Kenya’s democracy and violate constitutionally guaranteed freedoms, including the freedom of assembly and freedom of worship.
He emphasized that the only effective way to stop such behavior is through impartial and non-politicized investigations into the planners, executors, and enablers of the violence, followed by successful prosecution in accordance with the law.
According to the Deputy President, allowing violence to go unpunished risks replacing democratic competition based on ideas, principles, and programmes with intimidation and lawlessness, ultimately setting the country back.
He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to upholding the rule of law and protecting democratic spaces, including places of worship, as essential pillars of Kenya’s social and political life.
