Human rights advocate Saitabao ole Kanchory has questioned the credibility and independence of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) following public remarks by Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale expressing confidence in President William Ruto’s re-election in the 2027 General Election.
In a post shared on X on January 29, 2026, Kanchory reacted to comments made by Duale during a recent interview in which the Cabinet Secretary predicted a decisive victory for President Ruto.
“William Ruto will win in 2027 by two million to three million votes. The rest are jokers; the serious competitor is not around,” Duale said.
Duale went on to dismiss the opposition’s ability to mobilize supporters, claiming they lack the political muscle to mount a serious challenge.
“All these other oppositions cannot even fill Uhuru Park. Tell them to fill it, and I will pay. It is only William Ruto who can fill Uhuru Park,” he added.
Reacting to the remarks, Kanchory raised concerns about how such confidence in election outcomes could be expressed so openly when the process is meant to be managed by an independent electoral body.
He questioned whether statements of this nature undermine public trust in the IEBC and the integrity of future elections, arguing that electoral outcomes should be determined solely by voters through a transparent and credible process.
Kanchory’s comments add to ongoing public debate about political neutrality, the role of state officials in electioneering, and the importance of safeguarding the independence of electoral institutions ahead of the 2027 polls.
