Democratic Action Party (DAP-K) leader Eugene Wamalwa has alleged that President William Ruto is strategizing to revive the Justice Ministry in order to appoint him as a Cabinet Secretary (CS). Wamalwa made the claims during an interview on a local radio station on Thursday, January 29, 2026, amid swirling speculation about his political allegiance and potential shift to the ruling coalition.
The former Defence Cabinet Secretary (CS) revealed that the President’s move to resurrect the Justice Ministry is part of an effort to lure him into joining the government ahead of the 2027 General Election. Wamalwa stated that Ruto’s approach is aimed at gaining his support to bolster the ruling party’s prospects in the upcoming polls.
“I am aware of the plans to revive the Justice Ministry so that I can be appointed as CS. But I want to make it clear that I am not interested in any ministerial position,” Wamalwa said. “I have served in Cabinet for over 10 years, and I am committed to my principles and the opposition movement.”
The politician, who has recently faced rumors of abandoning the opposition to join the government, emphasized that he cannot be tempted by such offers. He pointed out that his previous service in the Justice Ministry, especially before the 2010 Constitution was enacted, included overseeing its implementation and promulgation, highlighting his deep roots in judicial and constitutional matters.
Wamalwa further noted that his focus remains on serving his constituents and supporting the opposition’s agenda, dismissing any notions of switching sides for political gain. “My loyalty is to the people and my principles. I will not be swayed by ministerial appointments or promises,” he asserted.
As Kenya approaches the 2027 elections, the political landscape remains tense, with key leaders like Wamalwa reaffirming their positions and resisting external pressures to switch allegiances. His claims about Ruto’s plans add a new dimension to the ongoing political calculations in the run-up to the elections.
