United Opposition leaders are set to accompany former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua to Othaya following the attack that disrupted a church service on Sunday, January 25, 2026.
The opposition leaders have planned a series of stopovers on Sunday, February 1, 2025, across Murang’a and Nyeri counties, in what is being viewed as both a solidarity visit and a political mobilization tour.
According to the itinerary, the leaders will begin the day by attending a church service at Gitugi ACK Church at 9:00 a.m. After the service, they will hold a “meet the people” rally at Gitugi Centre in Mathioya Constituency, Murang’a County.
The delegation will then proceed to Nyeri County, where they are expected to hold a major rally in Othaya town. The Othaya meeting is intended to make up for the rally that was postponed last Sunday after Gachagua’s church service was violently interrupted.
The events will be spearheaded by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and will bring together key figures from the United Opposition.
Among the leaders expected to attend are Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, Democratic Action Party–Kenya (DAP-K) leader Eugene Wamalwa, People’s Liberation Party (PLP) leader Martha Karua, Democratic Party leader JB Muturi, and Jubilee presidential flagbearer Fred Matiang’i.
Others include Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) Deputy Party Leader Cleophas Malala, DCP National Organising Secretary Mithika Linturi, and several other politicians aligned with the United Opposition leadership.
The planned visit comes amid heightened political tension following the church incident, with opposition leaders framing the tour as a stand against political intolerance and an opportunity to directly engage residents of the Mt Kenya region.
