Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader and Siaya Senator Oburu Odinga has insisted that ODM will continue working closely with President William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA) as part of the broad-based government, with plans to formalize a pact ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Speaking during a NYOTA funds disbursement programme in Kisumu on Monday, February 2, 2026, Oburu praised the current working relationship between ODM and UDA, saying the collaboration has yielded tangible benefits for the party and the country.
He noted that while some critics argue ODM is moving too quickly in aligning itself with the government, early preparations are necessary given the proximity of the next general election.
“Others are saying that we are moving faster, but we are not fast. Elections will be held next year; we must start preparing ourselves, and I assure you that I will take you to Canaan through Singapore,” Oburu said.
Oburu drew parallels between Kenya’s current government programmes and Singapore’s early development path, arguing that the policies being implemented mirror strategies that transformed the Asian nation into a global economic powerhouse.
“The programmes you see from the government are what Singapore started with,” he stated.
He further revealed that ODM intends to deepen engagement with UDA, expressing confidence that continued negotiations would yield even greater political and developmental gains.
“As we proceed, we are going to talk to UDA, and we are going to get more than what we are getting now,” Oburu added.
His remarks underscore ODM’s growing openness to long-term cooperation with the ruling party, signaling potential political realignments as the 2027 elections draw closer.
