Mumias East Member of Parliament Peter Salasya has launched a scathing attack on President William Ruto, accusing him of abusing the Office of the President by turning State House into a partisan political platform for the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
In a strongly worded statement, Salasya said President Ruto must be reminded “firmly and without apology” that State House is neither a personal residence nor a party asset, but a constitutional institution held in trust for all Kenyans.
According to the legislator, State House is financed by public funds, secured by national resources, and symbolically reserved for national unity and service. He argued that its frequent use for party meetings, displays of UDA colours, and what he termed choreographed propaganda amounts to a gross violation of the doctrine of public trust.
“The President does not own State House. He merely occupies it temporarily under the authority of the Constitution,” Salasya stated, adding that the Head of State has a duty to exercise power in a lawful, impartial, and dignified manner.
Salasya warned that converting State House into what he described as a “UDA political theatre” represents a collapse of the neutrality expected of the Presidency and insults the Republic itself. He stressed that the Presidency is not a party seat and that State House should never function as a ruling party headquarters.
Drawing parallels with the country’s economic challenges, the MP likened the alleged capture of State institutions to what he described as reckless economic management, where citizens are overtaxed, livelihoods are destroyed, and public suffering is treated as collateral damage.
“Kenya cannot be run like a private company, a campaign project, or a family enterprise,” he said, insisting that the misuse of national institutions erodes democratic norms and weakens public confidence in leadership.
Salasya concluded his remarks with a lament over the country’s political direction, questioning how Kenya arrived at what he termed a moment of national embarrassment, and calling for the restoration of constitutional order, institutional integrity, and respect for the Office of the President.
