Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has broken his silence after being removed as the Secretary General of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).
Sifuna was ousted by the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) during a meeting held on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, in Mombasa. The decision marked a significant leadership change within the party amid growing internal tensions.
Taking to his X account on the morning of Thursday, February 12, 2026, Sifuna acknowledged the wave of support he says he has received since the announcement of his removal.
“Following yesterday’s events, I have been overwhelmed by the messages of support and encouragement. I will speak to the press this morning to address some of your concerns. Ahsanteni sana. God bless,” Sifuna wrote.
The message signals that the Nairobi Senator intends to publicly respond to the circumstances surrounding his removal and possibly clarify his next political steps.
Political Fallout Continues
Sifuna’s removal has sparked debate within political circles, with leaders divided over the decision taken by the ODM NEC. Some have defended the move as necessary for party unity, while others view it as evidence of deepening internal divisions.
Following his ouster, Deputy Secretary General Catherine Omanyo was appointed to act in the position until a substantive Secretary General is elected.
As one of ODM’s most vocal leaders in recent years, Sifuna’s next move is expected to attract significant attention. His planned press address could shed light on whether he intends to challenge the decision, remain within the party, or chart a different political path.
With political realignments intensifying ahead of the 2027 General Election, Sifuna’s response may further shape the unfolding dynamics within ODM and the broader opposition landscape.
