Former Cabinet Secretary for Public Service Moses Kuria has justified his decision to join the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), stating that running on the party’s ticket in the 2022 general elections could have led him to victory as Kiambu County Governor.
Speaking in an interview on a local TV station on Tuesday, 17 February 2026, Kuria reflected on his political journey with his former party, Chama Cha Kazi (CCK), and the challenges that shaped his electoral fate.
“I have been with my Chama Cha Kazi for five years and have been branded Ruto’s project. When we went for the by-elections in Mbeere North, Rigathi Gachagua, whom I respect so much, said that we should choose sides, and I chose UDA. I stayed for five years, insisting that we should have our own party. If I ran on a UDA ticket in 2022, I could be the governor for Kiambu County,” Kuria said.
Kuria’s remarks highlight the internal political dynamics in Kenya, where party affiliation often plays a decisive role in electoral success. He emphasized that his loyalty to CCK, despite its limitations, was a principled stand that may have cost him the governorship.
The politician’s comments come as he consolidates his position within UDA, signaling potential future political ambitions ahead of the 2027 general elections.
