Former Cabinet Secretary for Public Service Moses Kuria has reminisced about the period when Rigathi Gachagua, leader of the Democracy for the Citizens Party, served as Kenya’s Deputy President, describing Gachagua as a leader who listened and protected the interests of the Mount Kenya region.
Speaking in a morning interview on Tuesday, 17 February 2026, Kuria reflected on the impact of Gachagua’s impeachment, asserting that it weakened the region politically.
“Let us not look at those in government right now because deep down, there is a big problem. Rigathi played a major role as Deputy President. I miss the moments with him as Deputy President. Our strength as a region was reduced when Gachagua was impeached,” Kuria said.
The former Gatundu South Constituency lawmaker highlighted Gachagua’s key role in supporting President William Ruto, noting that the Deputy President often acted as a safeguard for regional interests.
“There are things that the President would have wanted to do but could not because Rigathi Gachagua was there to protect the interests of the Mount Kenya people,” Kuria added.
Kuria’s remarks underscore the enduring influence of Gachagua in Mount Kenya politics and hint at ongoing discussions about leadership and regional representation within Kenya’s government.
