Caroli Omondi Denies Exiting ODM, Says No By-Election Triggered in Suba South

"Suba South MP Caroli Omondi has dismissed claims that he has left the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), clarifying that he remains a party member. Caroli Omondi has refuted claims that he has exited the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).

Speaking on the night of Wednesday, February 18, 2026, during an interview with a local TV station, the Suba South Member of Parliament clarified that he remains a registered member of the party despite publicly declaring that he will not defend his seat on an ODM ticket in the next general election.

Omondi explained that had he formally resigned from ODM, the move would have automatically triggered a by-election in Suba South under constitutional and party provisions.

“If I had left ODM, there would have been a by-election in my constituency (Suba South), so I have not left ODM. I have, however, made it clear that I will not seek re-election in ODM,” he stated.

His remarks appear aimed at dispelling speculation about his political future and party status.

While maintaining his membership, Omondi’s declaration that he will not seek re-election on the ODM ticket signals potential political realignments ahead of the 2027 General Election.

The clarification comes amid ongoing internal debates within ODM regarding party direction, alliances and leadership dynamics.

For now, Omondi remains an ODM MP representing Suba South, even as he charts a different course for his political future.
