Former Ruiru Member of Parliament Esther Gathogo has joined the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP), led by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, as she prepares to contest the Ruiru parliamentary seat in the 2027 General Election.
Gachagua announced Gathogo’s entry into the party on Saturday, February 21, 2026, through his official X account, warmly welcoming her to what he described as “the party of the moment.”
“Welcome Hon. Esther Gathogo to @DCP_Democracy, the party of the moment in your bid to recapture the Ruiru parliamentary seat. Free and fair nominations is guaranteed in the party as we let the people decide,” Gachagua stated.
Gathogo previously served as the MP for Ruiru and is now seeking to reclaim the seat under the DCP banner. Her move signals growing political realignments ahead of the 2027 polls, with emerging parties seeking to attract experienced leaders to strengthen their grassroots appeal.
Gachagua’s assurance of transparent nominations appears aimed at distinguishing DCP from established parties often accused of flawed internal processes. By pledging free and fair primaries, the party is positioning itself as reform-oriented and people-driven.
Gathogo’s decision to join DCP adds momentum to the party’s expansion efforts as it continues to recruit leaders across the country in preparation for the next general election.
