Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has urged residents of the Gusii region not to tolerate leaders who insult Jubilee deputy party leader Fred Matiang’i.
Speaking during a roadside rally in Keroka on Monday, February 23, 2026, Gachagua emphasised that the only way Matiang’i can command national respect is if his home region leads by example. The rally was part of a three-day United Opposition tour across the Gusii region.
“Mimi nataka tukubaliane; ndio mimi niende nitembeze Matiang’i Mlimani aende akutane na his cousin. Ndiyo watu wa Mlima wamuheshimu, lazima aheshimike hapa nyumbani. Sitaki mkubali watoto wadogo wakuje watusi Matiang’i,” Gachagua told the crowd.
The outspoken leader of the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) called on the Kisii community to unite behind Matiang’i, framing regional solidarity as a stepping stone to broader national influence.
Gachagua’s remarks come amid inte
nsifying political realignments ahead of the 2027 General Election, with opposition leaders traversing different regions to consolidate support. His message in Keroka underscored the importance of grassroots backing in shaping national political stature.
By urging locals to defend Matiang’i from public criticism, Gachagua signaled a push for unity within the Gusii region as opposition figures continue to position themselves for the upcoming electoral contest.
