Gladys Wanga has officially confirmed that she received and accepted the resignation of Deputy Governor Joseph Oyugi Magwanga.
In a formal statement issued on February 27, 2026, the governor announced that the resignation takes immediate effect, declaring the Office of the Deputy Governor of Homa Bay County vacant in accordance with Article 181(1) of the Constitution and Section 32C(b) of the County Governments Act.
“As we await the constitutional process for a new Deputy Governor, our administration remains focused on serving the people,” Wanga stated.
She assured residents that county operations will continue seamlessly, emphasising that service delivery remains uninterrupted despite the leadership transition. Wanga further reiterated her administration’s commitment to accountability, institutional stability, and development across all wards.
Magwanga’s resignation follows months of reported tension between him and the county leadership, culminating in his decision to step down. With the vacancy now formally declared, attention shifts to the constitutional procedure for appointing and approving a new deputy governor.
