DP Kindiki Declares Himself Senior-Most Mt Kenya Leader During Rally
Deputy President Kithure Kindiki used a public rally to make one of his clearest political statements yet, subtly taking aim at former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua. Speaking to supporters, Kindiki declared, “I am the senior most political leader.” He contrasted his position with unnamed rivals, saying,
a pointed remark widely interpreted as a jab at Gachagua, who has been positioning himself as Mt Kenya’s spokesperson since leaving office.
Kindiki stressed that his words were intentional. “For the avoidance of doubt sijasema hii wacha niseme leo,” he said, signalling that he was ready to confront the ongoing power struggle in the region. He criticized leaders who crown themselves as Mt Kenya kingpins without holding any higher national office or public mandate. “Hii tabia ya kujitanagaza wewe mwenyewe ati wewe ndo mkubwa… nani alikuchagua mkubwa wa Mlima?” he asked, in a direct challenge to those claiming regional authority.
The remarks left no doubt that Kindiki was drawing a line, asserting his role as the highest-ranking Mt Kenya leader in government, and warning political rivals—especially Gachagua—that the era of self-declared supremacy in the region is over.
