Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Thursday visited the home of Karungo wa Thang'wa in Ruiru to console the family following the death of the senator’s mother, Lucia Wangui Thang’wa.
In a message shared after the visit, Gachagua described the late Mama Lucia as a woman whose life embodied faith, family values and service to the community.
“I condoled with the family of Senator Karungo wa Thang'wa today at their home in Ruiru following the passing of Lucia Wangui Thang'wa,” Gachagua said.
He praised the deceased for the impact she had on those around her, saying her life was one that many people could learn from.
“Mama Lucia lived a life worth emulation; a family life, Christian life and a life of societal support. Through her kind deeds, she touched many lives,” he said.
Gachagua extended his sympathies to the senator and his siblings, noting that the loss of a parent is always a painful moment for any family.
“To the family of Senator Thang'wa and your siblings, please accept my deepest sympathies and that of my family. I pray for strength during this difficult moment to you and your loved ones,” he added.
He concluded his message with a prayer for the deceased, saying: “May the Almighty God rest the soul of Mama Lucia in eternal rest and grant her peace.”
Senator Thang’wa, a close ally of Gachagua and a vocal politician from Kiambu County, has in recent years been active in national politics, often aligning himself with the former deputy president on key political issues affecting the Mount Kenya region. The visit comes amid a series of condolence messages from leaders across the country who have continued to mourn the passing of the senator’s mother.
