A fresh storm is brewing inside the Orange Democratic Movement after Secretary General Edwin Sifuna firmly rejected efforts to remove him from office.
Speaking amid growing tensions within ODM, Sifuna maintained that he is still the duly elected SG and challenged those pushing for his exit to follow the party’s constitution. He argued that any attempt to sideline him outside the laid-down procedures is null and void.
His remarks come in the wake of sweeping changes within the party leadership, including the recent elevation of Oburu Odinga as ODM party leader after the death of Raila Odinga. The transition has triggered factional battles, with some leaders seeking to reorganize key positions within the party.
Sifuna, however, struck a defiant tone, insisting he will not be intimidated or forced out. He accused unnamed individuals of attempting to hijack the party and warned that he is ready to defend his position both politically and legally if necessary.
The standoff now exposes widening cracks within ODM, a party long seen as a dominant force in Kenya’s opposition politics. Analysts say the dispute could test the party’s unity at a critical time when it is trying to redefine its leadership and future direction.
