The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has commenced a new voter registration drive across the country, targeting millions of eligible Kenyans who are yet to register as voters.
The exercise, which will be conducted in all counties, seeks to boost voter numbers, particularly among young people who have recently attained the age of 18. IEBC officials have emphasized the importance of inclusive participation, urging citizens to take advantage of the opportunity to secure their place in shaping the country’s leadership.
According to the commission, registration centers have been set up at designated public locations, including constituency offices and Huduma centres, to ensure accessibility for all. Mobile registration units are also expected to be deployed in remote areas to reach underserved populations.
IEBC has assured the public of a transparent and efficient process, noting that strict measures have been put in place to safeguard the integrity of voter data. Citizens are required to present valid identification documents, such as a national ID or passport, during registration.
The commission further called on stakeholders, including civil society groups and political leaders, to support civic education efforts aimed at increasing awareness and turnout.
This latest initiative comes as Kenya continues to reinforce its electoral systems and encourage wider participation in democratic processes, amid growing calls for credible and inclusive elections.
