Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has emerged as the leading favorite to remain President William Ruto’s running mate in the 2027 General Election, according to a new survey by Trends and Insights For Africa (TIFA).
The poll, conducted about 15 months before the 2027 elections, shows that 59 per cent of respondents support Kindiki retaining his position on the presidential ticket. The findings place him far ahead of other potential contenders from both the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) camps.
The survey comes at a time when political leaders within the broad-based government arrangement continue positioning themselves for the country’s second-highest office. Despite the growing competition, Kindiki appears to enjoy widespread support among Kenyans who view him as steady, calm, and focused on government delivery.
Political analysts attribute Kindiki’s popularity to his low-profile leadership style and his close working relationship with President Ruto since assuming office as Deputy President. Supporters also point to his role in coordinating government programs and maintaining stability within the administration during politically turbulent moments.
Kindiki’s backing is also seen as a sign of confidence in continuity within the Kenya Kwanza administration, with many voters preferring stability ahead of the next election cycle. His performance in public service, including his previous role as Interior Cabinet Secretary, has further strengthened his standing among sections of the electorate.
As the race toward 2027 gradually gains momentum, discussions surrounding the deputy presidential slot are expected to intensify, especially as leaders from different political formations seek influence within the ruling coalition. However, the latest TIFA survey suggests that Kindiki currently holds a commanding advantage in public opinion.
