A new survey by Trends and Insights For Africa (TIFA) has revealed increasing public interest in a united opposition alliance ahead of the 2027 General Election, with a Kalonzo Musyoka-Edwin Sifuna presidential ticket emerging as the most preferred option among opposition supporters.
According to the poll released on Thursday, May 14, 2026, 28 per cent of respondents backing opposition candidates favored a pairing between Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka and Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna. The findings place the duo ahead of other potential opposition combinations being discussed ahead of the next presidential race.
The survey also showed strong support for a possible Rigathi Gachagua-Kalonzo Musyoka alliance, which came in second with 25 per cent support. The close margin highlights the growing debate within opposition circles over the most strategic ticket capable of challenging President William Ruto in the 2027 elections.
TIFA noted that opposition supporters remain divided on the ideal coalition structure, reflecting broader challenges in building unity among leaders with different political interests and regional influence.
“Among Opposition candidate supporters, the combination of Kalonzo and Matiang’i attracts slightly more support than that of Kalonzo and Sifuna. How much influence public opinion will have in this selection process remains to be seen,” the report indicated.
Political analysts say the survey underscores the importance of coalition-building and strategic partnerships within the opposition as leaders begin positioning themselves for 2027. Kalonzo Musyoka continues to feature prominently in most proposed opposition alliances, reflecting his long-standing influence in national politics and his perceived ability to unite different political factions.
The poll also signals growing public attention on opposition realignments, with Kenyans closely monitoring whether rival leaders can overcome internal competition and present a united front against the ruling Kenya Kwanza administration.
