Kalonzo-Matiang’i Leads Opposition Preference
According to findings by TIFA Research, opposition supporters ranked the Kalonzo Musyoka–Fred Matiang’i combination as the strongest potential “unity ticket,” attracting about 31% support in tested pairings.
The survey suggests that voters within opposition-leaning blocs view the duo as a balanced mix of experience, national appeal, and governance credentials.
Close Competition Within Opposition Ranks
The Kalonzo-Matiang’i pairing narrowly leads the Kalonzo Musyoka–Edwin Sifuna ticket, which polled at around 28%.
Another tested combination, Kalonzo Musyoka–Rigathi Gachagua, trailed further behind at approximately 25%, highlighting the absence of a clear, unified opposition front.
Fragmented Opposition Still a Key Factor
The poll underscores a persistent challenge facing opposition politics in Kenya: fragmentation. While multiple leaders command significant support, none has yet consolidated a dominant coalition.
Analysts say this division could weaken the opposition’s ability to mount a strong challenge against the incumbent in 2027 unless a clear alliance is formed.
Why the Pairing Stands Out
Observers note that the Kalonzo-Matiang’i combination is seen as strategically appealing due to perceived regional balance and administrative experience, with both figures having served in senior government and political roles.
However, the poll also reflects that opposition dynamics remain fluid and subject to shifting alliances ahead of the election cycle.
