Nyamira County Governor Amos Kimwomi Nyaribo has been formally impeached following a decisive vote by members of the County Assembly. Out of the 31 MCAs present during the impeachment session, 23 voted in favour of the motion. Four additional MCAs had written to the Speaker requesting inclusion in the vote, reflecting widespread support for the impeachment process.
The motion was tabled by Bonyamatuta Ward representative Julius Kimwomi Matwere, who cited multiple allegations against Governor Nyaribo. Central to the accusations was the governor’s alleged reliance on unauthorized “Bunge Mashinani” sessions to conduct county business. These sessions, according to the assembly, were not legally recognized and therefore rendered decisions made under them unlawful.
MCAs further accused the governor of violating established legal procedures in the approval and implementation of the county budget. One of the key concerns was his endorsement of Peris Nyaboke-Oroko as the County Agriculture Minister, a process carried out during a disputed leadership period within the assembly and without adherence to required protocols.
Additional claims included the irregular appointment of committee members for Keroka town, as well as the unlawful establishment and approval of a Public Service Board appointment panel. These actions were allegedly executed through the same informal assembly gatherings that operated between October 2024 and June 2025.
The impeachment marks a significant shift in Nyamira County’s political landscape, setting the stage for further constitutional processes as required by law. The Senate is expected to take up the matter next, where Governor Nyaribo will have an opportunity to defend himself against the charges.
As the county awaits the next steps, the impeachment reflects ongoing concerns over governance, adherence to legal frameworks, and accountability in public office.
